Ondjiva - South Africa's tourism ambassador, George Van Deventel, has said in southern Cunene province that Angola's tourism potential is increasingly attracting interest from the international community to visit the country.

Speaking to ANGOP as part of a 14-day visit to the provinces of Cunene, Huíla and Namibe, the coordinator of "Trans Africa Drive Adventures", acknowledged that Angola has enormous potential in terms of natural beauty and the various peoples who are interested in being discovered and promoted.

"In my opinion Angola is indeed a powerhouse and a very beautiful nation, a fact that entices tourists to visit the country, to enjoy the hidden beauties within African regional tourism," he stressed.

George Van Deventel added that tourists will have the chance to visit and see for themselves the beauties that exist in the "brother country", adding that the platform has a page with 170,000 followers from all over the world on Facebook, where the beauties of Africa are shown.

He said that 20 tourists from Cape Town are taking part in this trip, which will take in the provinces of Cunene, Huila (Lubango) and Namibe, with the intention of reaching the mouth of the Cunene River, Iona Park, Flamingo Beach and Ruacaná.

George Van Deventel stressed the need to improve access routes, pointing out that due to the lack of accessibility in Angola, they are forced to cross Namibia to enjoy the beauty of Ruacaná.

Cunene province is one of the gateways to the country for tourists, mainly from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique, among others, via National Road 105.

With the implementation of the Tourism Promotion Program, Angola aims to reach two million tourists annually.

In 2023, the country welcomed 133,000 tourists, 11,000 more than in 2022, from 100 countries, especially Portugal, China, India and Brazil, among others.FI/LHE/QCB/MRA/AMP
