Moçâmedes - The European Union has funded the Sust-turismo (Sustainable Tourism) project with the amount of 170,000 euros.
The project, which has the participation of four countries, namely Angola, Cabo Verde, Portugal and Spain, includes six modules, with the training component lasting two years.
Speaking to ANGOP, the coordinator of the project, who is also rector of the University of Namibe, Dr Alfredo Noré Saluanja Muacahila, said that it was challenging and promising, focused on tourism with a view to diversifying the national economy.
"The tourism sector, despite its countless potential, has been dormant, so we launched this venture in order to help it develop in our country, particularly in Namibe, which has enormous potential and tourism products to offer," he said.
He pointed out that the project will train 15 teachers, three from the University of Namibe and the same number from the Lusíada University of Huambo and Benguela Provinces respectively, as well as Teachers from the Institute of Economic Business Sciences and Piaget in Cabo Verde.
In this regard, after the training, they will provide training to students and people from civil society interested in investing in tourism.
He revealed that Portugal and Spain have already passed the training stage, only Angola and Cabo Verde are part of the training stage, adding that “the 170,000 euros invested will be shared between the 10 partners involved in the project".
Alfredo Noré Saluanja Muacahila said that the implementation of this project would make it possible to get to know more tourist areas, resulting in the exploitation of other potentialities that Namibe province has, thus helping the state to raise more revenue in the field of tourism.
