Lubango – The Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) had a loss of up to 160 million Kwanzas (About 190,704 USD), in the 31 days in which the train stopped running on the Huíla/Cuando Cubango section, due to the rains that washed away two hydraulic crossings.

The floods on the third and fourth of February affected the railway infrastructure, destroying the hydraulic passage between the towns of Chanja and Olivença, the works of which lasted a month and cost the coffers of the public company, based in Lubango, 100 million Kz (US$ 119.190), revealed its commercial director, Carlos Roll.

Speaking to ANGOP, the official highlighted that the company will now “race” to recover its losses, with the resumption of passenger and freight train circulation today, Thursday.

He mentioned that there is a daily train between Lubango/Menongue and another that goes to the branch in the municipality of Jamba, which extends from the commune of Dongo to Tchamutete.

Carlos Roll also highlighted that farmers, along the railway network, now have the possibility of transporting their products, as the harvest season approaches and the CFM is in full operation to serve the community throughout the line.

In its weekly schedule, the company offers two freight trains daily from Lubango, where it has its headquarters, to Namibe, as well as six frequencies of passenger trains, on a total route of 806 kilometers that pass through 56 stations in the provinces of Namibe, Huíla and Cuando-Cubango. MS/MSCF/DOJ
