Luanda - Angola received the last 10 locomotives, of a total 100 acquired from the American company General Electric (GE), worth USD 430 million, according to National Institute of Railways of Angola (INCFA).
Speaking to National Radio station, INCFA director general, Ottoniel Manuel, confirmed that the ten locomotives started being unloaded on Saturday in Luanda Port.
He said that eight, of the said number, are designed for Luanda Railways (CFL), and the remaining two for Benguela Railways (CFB).
The locomotives have a dual operating system - diesel and electric - and have been funded by the Public Export Support Agency of Canada.
In 2019, 79 locomotives arrived in the country. Eleven of which are operating for Moçâmedes Railways (CFM).
To this purpose, the Railways sector is equipped to meet demand, at a time the country is gearing up for joining SADC Free Trade Zone, Ottoniel Manuel told the National Radio Station.
