Luanda - Angola leads the Steering Committee within the scope of the Southern African Development Country (SADC) satellite sharing programme, as it has its regional office set up and functioning in the countries capital city, said Tuesday in Luanda Province the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Mass Media (MINTTICS), Mário Oliveira.
Speaking at the opening of the third edition of the Africa Space Conference named New Espace Africa, the minister also added that the country has a relevant presence on the Advisory Committee of the International Satellite Organisation and in this way, "we can make our contribution to strengthening and enhancing the Angolan space industry, making it a service to Africans".
He pointed out that the coordinated use and management of radio frequency space and the orbits of geostationary and non-geostationary satellites, which are unlimited scarce resources, have been widely defended by Angola in international forums such as the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-23), in which the country has played an active role in these matters.
The third edition of the New Space Africa which is the African Space Conference edition 2024, running from 2 to 5 of the current month in Luanda, brings together the world´s largest space agencies where the role of space technology in poverty fighting in the African continent is under assessment.
At the Talatona Convention Centre (CCTA), a huge exhibition of 28 of the most prominent organisations in the global space industries and 24 other companies will present their solutions and services to the majority of delegates.
Specifically, the pavilions of the world's leading space agencies, with highlight to the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and Airbus SE aerospace company and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), will be present at the event, organised by Space in Africa in partnership with the African Union (AU).
According to the spokesman, Gilberto Gomes, the event is also being organised in partnership with the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN) of Angola's Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Social Communication (MINTTICS).
