Luanda - The executive director of the United Nations Children's Fund, Antero Almeida de Pina, recommended Tuesday, in Luanda, to the Angolan Government to prioritize investments that provide opportunities for young people.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the "Desafio Genial" (Genius Challenge in English) entrepreneurship fair, the official highlighted that this investment needs to be made in education, skills development and opportunities for job professional inclusion, with special attention to girls, people with disabilities and other vulnerable people.
He said that the fair demonstrates that there are many organizations, institutions and people who promote young Angolans as part of the solution, providing opportunities for them to develop skills and abilities for their professional and personal growth.
He highlighted that given the countless challenges that young people face and the uncertainties about the future, the meeting and dialogue between the different institutions that promote the potential of youth is a very valuable opportunity.
The official congratulated the Government for prioritizing the development of human capital, as reflected in the PND 2023-2027 and the 2050 strategy.
He believes that with similar initiatives it is possible to promote the development of human capital, encouraging young people to overcome barriers to growth, access to education, work and create an intervention model that seeks greater impact with partners from the private sector, civil society, among others.
He reiterated UNICEF's commitment to the development of human capital, which is aligned with the Angola 2050 long-term development strategy.
In turn, the secretary of State for Youth, Danila Patrícia de Almeida Bragança, confirmed that investing in young people certainly guarantees the sustainable development of African societies.
She said that to achieve sustainable economic paths for young people, it is necessary to invest in education and quality vocational training.
She explained that, by acquiring skills and competencies, young people will be able to increase their employability and entrepreneurship chances, through training programs that align with the needs of the local market.
In his opinion, encouraging entrepreneurship is fundamental to creating new economic opportunities for young generations, as well as encouraging the creation and growth of small and medium-sized companies to contribute to job creation.
