Luanda – The Angolan Embassy in Turkey has no record of any Angolan citizen among the victims of the earthquake that devastated the southwest of that Euro-Asian country, ANGOP learned Tuesday.

According to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Turkey, they are monitoring the search and rescue effort and have not yet registered any national victims.

However, the embassy recognises that it is still early to provide definitive data taking into account that only a little over 24 hours have passed since the earthquake was recorded on Monday early morning and afternoon.

The Angolan Embassy in Turkey, which is in touch with Turkey authorities, found that the Angolans who were in the most affected areas have been moved to temporary facilities that offer better security.

The first earthquake, recorded near the city of Gaziantep, was of 7.8 in magnitude and the second 7.5, which occurred near the Kahramanmaraş Province.

The Turkey Disaster Agency said that more than 3,381 people died and over 15,000 were injured.

Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said Turkey experienced its biggest disaster in the last century since the Erzincan earthquake in 1939 and that he cannot announce the exact death toll while search and rescue work is still in progress.
