Malanje - A Portuguese tourist died on Wednesday (17) after he slipped and fell to his death at Calandula Falls, 85 km north of Malanje city, the capital of the northern Malanje province.
The 25-year-old citizen, who was accompanied by his companion, was standing by the edge of Calandula Falls taking pictures in a risk area, ANGOP learned on Friday.
Tourist guides, Emanuel Bequessa and Adão Costa, who confirmed the accident, blamed on recklessness and disregard for advice.
They said that the tourists had been warned of the need to follow the route and the places indicated and take pictures.
The body of the young tourist was found a few hours later and according to the head of the municipal public health section of Calandula, Domingos Tenente, the victim had serious fractures to the head and upper and lower limbs, as he had hit the rocks in River.
The remains were forwarded to the morgue of the Malanje Regional Hospital.
With 105 meters high and 410 meters wide, Calandula Falls is the Africa’s second largest after Victoria Falls located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
They are one of the seven tourist wonders of Angola and the visiting card of Malanje, with impressive potential to attract national and foreign tourists.
