Luanda – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake with moderate class rocked the southern Namibe province with its epicenter around 142 kilometers from its capital Mocâmedes city, while human and material damage is yet to be determined.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET), the earthquake struck at 08:42 in the Atlantic Ocean and affected the provinces of Namibe, Bié, Huíla, Huambo, Benguela and Cuanza-Sul.
This phenomenon comes after it was detected in September last year around 144 kilometers from the city of Menongue, in Cuando Cubango province, without causing any human or material damage.
A few days earlier, Huambo and Bié provinces also recorded an earthquake with a 5.2 magnitude, which lasted 10 seconds.
At the time, INAMET considered the situation worrying, despite the fact that the affected areas are prone to earthquakes.Although it didn't cause any material or human damage in the two provinces, several buildings did shake.
At the time, the provincial government of Bié had decreed a day off due to fears that there would be more earthquakes.
