Ndalatando – At least 67 people were arrested in 2023 in Angola’s northern Cuanza Norte province by the criminal Investigation Service (SIC) accused of sexually abusing minors, the local SIC spokesperson Kituxi André said Tuesday.
According to the SIC spokesperson, at least 81 cases of sexual offences against minors were recorded in the period in question, 24 of which were sexual assaults and 57 sexual abuse, with a total of 57 offences solved.
The figures represent an increase of 22 cases compared to those recorded in 2022, when 59 sexual offences against minors were recorded, the spokesperson said, adding that most of the victims were under the age of 14, while perpetrators are aged between 20 and 60.
Among the arrested there was a 59-year-old man accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl that resulted in pregnancy. DS/OHA/AMP
