Luanda - Angolan government has launched a public consultation on Draft Law for the Revision of the Road Code, aimed at reversing the high level of road accidents in the country.
The public consultation is available since Tuesday (August 08) on the website of the Ministry of the Interior (www.minint. gov.ao)., and runs until the end of September of the current year.
The document includes the increase in fines for offenders, the adjustment of the matter on the levels of alcohol in the body of drivers.
It also features improvement of technical procedures for the application of sanctioning measures to inhibit driving, reduction of the sense of impunity for drivers and clarification of the code's legal and technical definitions.
The minister of the Interior Eugénio Laborinho said the move is intended to reduce road accidents by 50 percent, as well as its consequences, fundamentally deaths on the roads.
The minister recalled that the Council of Ministers approved, last May, the National Road Safety and Prevention Plan 2023-2027 to define the strategic and operational objectives, to reduce the number of road accidents in the country.
The new diploma scraps the Road Code, in force since 2008, in view of the current reality. LIN/VIC/TED/NIC
