Luanda - Angolan Christians paid homage on Saturday to all the martyrs who fought for National Independence, attained on 11 November 1975.
The tribute, made during the thanksgiving service that took place in Luanda, recalled kings, queens and all nationalists (known and anonymous), precursors of freedom.
As well as paying tribute to the precursors of National Independence, the religious leaders took the opportunity to praise the role of health professionals who day after day give their best for the health of Angolans in this phase marked by the prevention and fight against Covid-19.
The mass, co-organised by the Catholic Church, the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA) and the Angolan Evangelical Alliance (AEA) with the institutional support of the National Institute for Religious Affairs (INAR), took place under the slogan "Angola have no fear, God is with you".
The event served, among other objectives, to carry out moments of intercession in favour of families and the country, in a phase marked by the difficulties caused by the financial and economic crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his speech, the Minister for Culture, Tourism and the Environment, Jomo Fortunato, acknowledged the contribution of the Churches in raising awareness among the population against Covid-19.
He said the churches' contribution to raising awareness in the communities has been instrumental in containing the spread of the pandemic.
Fortunato called on Angolans to continue to observe the measures determined by the authorities to prevent and combat Covid-19.
