Catete - The first governor of the newly created province of Icolo and Bengo, Auzílio de Oliveira Jacob, will be introduced on Friday (Dec 27) to the population, in the town of Catete, administrative seat of the new territorial plot.

The governor's introduction takes place simultaneously with the formal act of institutionalization of the province of Icolo and Bengo, under the guidance of the Minister of Territorial Administration (MAT), Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca.

According to the activity program to which ANGOP had access Thursday, the ceremony involves the raising of the flag to the sound of the National Anthem, followed by the unveiling of the plaque that symbolizes the institutionalization of the province of Icolo and Bengo.

The Term of Transfer of Offices will then be signed and delivered, before interventions by the provincial governor of Luanda, Luís Manuel da Fonseca Nunes, and other entities.

The act also includes interventions by the first provincial governor of Icolo and Bengo, in the person of Auzílio de Oliveira Jacob, and the minister of Territorial Administration, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca.

The new province of Icolo and Bengo emerged under the new Political-Administrative Division (DPA) of Angola, approved on August 14, 2024, by the National Assembly.

In the new configuration, the country now has three new provinces, making 21 regions, 326 municipalities and 378 communes.

The new provinces resulted from the division of Moxico (Moxico-Leste), Cuando Cubango (Cubango) and Luanda (Icolo and Bengo).

The province of Icolo and Bengo, part of the division of Luanda into two, is headquartered in the town of Catete, seven municipalities and 11 communes and an estimated population of 131,268 inhabitants, spread over an area of ​​3,819 square kilometers. CLAU/IZ/DOJ
