Luanda - Two hundred and fifteen Scrap dealers’ facilities were closed by police, in Luanda, in order to reduce the number of thefts and damage to public property resulting from the illicit subtraction of non-precious metals.

The information was provided by the spokesperson for the Luanda Provincial Command of the National Police, Nestor Goubel, during the review of operation "Fecho”.

The official explained that 215 of the 230 weighing houses in the municipality of Luanda were closed, specifically in the districts of Ingombota, Sambizanga, Maianga, Rangel and Samba.

He said that the scrap dealers facilities have been the destination given to materials such as electrical cables, removed from cabins and power poles, or from traffic signs, and sewer covers, practices that have caused enormous damage to the State and communities.

Due to the alarming increase in the practice, he stressed, some houses for this purpose are being closed and sealed, in order to have better control.

The measure, he explained, has not been to the liking of some owners of these houses. For this reason, he added, last week a citizen of the Republic of Guinea was arrested for the crime of disobedience, as he decided, as a way of continuing with the business, to damage the seal placed by the Police on the door of the weighing house, located in the neighborhood of Catambor, Urban District of Maianga.

Operation "Fecho” resulted in the arrest of 20 citizens, implicated in various crimes.

It made it possible to clarify 23 crimes and recover three firearms. AB/OHA/TED/DOJ
