Cacuaco - Nine children, aged between 1 and 12 years, were admitted (Saturday) to the intensive care unit of the General Hospital “Heróis do Kifangondo”, in the Urban District of Sequele, in the municipality of Cacuaco, after consumption a homemade alcoholic beverage aka “Capassarinho”.
The fact was reported to the press today by the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, who visited the aforementioned health unit to monitor the case.
The official said that the children drank the adulterated drink (mucua juice mixed with alcoholic drinks) during a family gathering in the Tandi 2 neighborhood, in Cacuaco.
Of the nine children, Minister Silvia Lutucuta explained that five have already been discharged and four are still under medical care, two of which have some concerns.
According to the minister, this psychotropic drink is very strong and can lead to death, stressing that samples of "capassarinho" were taken to the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) lab to determine the level of toxicity.
On the other hand, psychiatrist Jaime Sampaio, a specialist in the area of chemical dependency, reported that ingestion of the aforementioned drink causes "drastic" consequences, causing neuropsychiatric changes, with agitation, leaving consumers aggressive, and may cause organ failure.
