Sumbe - At least 200 underprivileged children on the outskirts of the city of Sumbe Coastal Kwanza-Sul province were treated to a charity lunch on Saturday, an initiative of the Women's Solidarity Group.
Called "a friendly hug", the Women's Solidarity gesture, according to its coordinator, Telma Afonso, aimed to provide moments of joy, fun, interaction and to minimise the less good times that children face, especially the impact of hunger.
"This is the first activity of the year and we promise to continue bringing joy to children who, because they are the future of the nation, deserve the attention of society as a whole," said the coordinator, for whom solidarity reduces pain, increases empathy and generates optimism.
Domingas Tópico, head of the solidarity kitchen at the parish of São Tiago in the E15 neighbourhood, praised the initiative, noting that the women were demonstrating works of mercy and empathy for the most disadvantaged.
