Ondjiva - The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, said Wednesday in Oshindugolo, Cunene province, he was satisfied with the level of execution of the construction work of the water collection centre in Cafu and the water channel.
The project includes construction of aqueducts over 160 kilometres of canals to carry water to three municipalities.
Speaking to the press at the end of his 24-hour working day to Cunene province, the minister noted that the work was progressing at a normal and optimistic pace in relation to meeting the schedule of activities and the deadline set for delivery by February, 2022.
According to the minister, the project is about 40 percent complete and the entire course of the future canals has already been cleared.
According to Joao Borges, the excavation and concreting of the canal is underway and the main equipment, such as pumps and piping are on their way.
The Cabinet minister noted that the level of execution was in line with expectations and that the contractor was prepared to mitigate the impact of the rains, judging by the approaching season.
According to the minister, the visit served to interact with the provincial government and to make some necessary adjustments to the project, so that it may meet the requirements, needs and convenience of the local authorities.
In his opinion, the project will have a "very big impact" on the availability of water for consumption by the population, watering livestock and irrigation, with a view to improving food safety in the region affected by drought.
