Luanda - Angola’s minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto suggested Friday greater involvement of women in peace and security processes or missions in Africa and the world.
Speaking at the Conference on the Role of Women in Building Peace and Stability in Africa, the minister called on women to invest in training and capacity building, especially young women, in matters linked to the processes of building and maintaining peace, security and of resolving armed conflicts.
"The modern world also recognises that women and young girls are instrumental in the struggle to achieve stability, security, prosperity and sustainable development of families, societies and countries", she highlighted.
In view of this role, the minister called for increasing awareness and discussion around the promotion of safeguarding the participation of women and young girls in political, economic and social life, on equal terms with men and boys.
She also highlighted the importance of giving women greater participation in the main decision-making bodies regarding the political, economic, social and cultural life of their countries.
In her view, it is necessary to protect and prepare African children and young people for a culture of peace and tolerance, through education and continuous training.
Ana Paula do Sacramento also spoke of the importance of transmitting to populations knowledge about conflict prevention and resolution on the basis of dialogue, as recommended by the African Agenda 2063.
The conference was promoted by the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with Peoples (LAASP), in its capacity as vice president of the World Peace Council.
Under the motto “Women, peace and security in Africa”, the event was attended by women from various national and international ministerial departments. LIN/ART/NIC
