Luanda-The Minister of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion, Faustina Alves, reaffirmed this Thursday the Angolan government's bet on advocacy and sensitisation for tackling domestic violence and other measures in favour of vulnerable women.
Available figures show that in 2021, the family counselling centres monitored 4,283 cases of domestic violence, 86 percent of which were committed against women, 1,604 cases of abandoning the family, 759 cases of psychological violence and 282 cases of property violence.
The Cabinet minister, who was speaking at the forum on the impact of women on the Angolan economy and society, said that women had a considerable weight as the country's productive force, accounting for 52 percent.
Faustina Alves added that MASFAMU controls 225 cooperatives and actions in 13 provinces of the country related to agriculture, animal husbandry, aquaculture, fishing, cutting and sewing, trade, among other activities.
In a universe of 10,747 members, of which 9,618 are women, who have contributed to respond to the measures of relief of the economic and financial effects caused by Covid-19, to reduce the worsening of the economic framework of the country.
The training of the cooperatives has enabled them to organise and access microcredit.
For his part, the US ambassador in Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, said the impact of women in the economy and society in general was remarkable. "The inclusion of women in society in general makes economies stronger," the diplomat said.
