Luanda - The Minister of State for Social Affairs, Carolina Cerqueira, Tuesday discussed the social, political and economic situation in the country with members of the Angolan community in Italy, with emphasis on the effects of the economic and financial crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic and the drought in the south and south-east region of the country.
Carolina Cerqueira, who is in Rome to take part in the Pre-Summit on Food Systems promoted by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Fund (FAO), noted that the drought in the south and southeast of Angola is a challenge for the government, which is trying to meet the basic needs of the affected populations with the distribution of food supplies, medical assistance and social support.
In order to counteract the effects of the drought, she said, large-scale structural programmes were underway to cover the lack of water and encourage population settlement.
The minister took the opportunity to highlight the Government's efforts to promote impact public policies to ensure well-being, progress and social justice, the foundations of solid human development.
The State Minister disclosed the advances registered in the country, in the health area, with the modernisation of infrastructures and staff training visible in the increase of hospitals, health centres and six field hospitals equipped with high technology to face the effects of Covid-19, associated to a high progression of human resources, mainly young people.
