Luanda - The bishop of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoist), Afonso Nunes, defended Sunday the need for African leaders to think more about the African continent.
The religious leader made the statement in the thanksgiving service allusive to the 73rd anniversary of the "remembrance" of this religious congregation marked on July 25.
According to Afonso Nunes, African leaders should use the financial revenues resulting from the exploitation of natural resources of the continent for the welfare of the people, adding that the Tocoist church will continue to fight for this to become a reality.
"The struggle for freedom carried out by the Tocoist Church has required much sacrifice, including loss of life, and for this reason Africans must work for their true identity", said the cleric.
The bishop emphasized that the religious denomination today is a symbol of many African countries, in particular, and of the world, in general.
He considered July 25 a date of great responsibility and meditation on the historical path of the church.
Speaking on the values of Africanism, Monteiro Capunga, aTocoist church member, said he regrets the fact that the languages of the continent are not being used, both by politicians and young people.
In his view, the national (indiginenous) languages are being forgotten, giving preference to the languages of the former colonizing powers.
"The prophet Simon Toco fought for true freedom for African people, but we are still stuck with colonial principles, because we still give primacy to foreign culture instead of African culture", Capunga stressed.
The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World celebrates on July 25 what they deem the remembrance of this religious denomination, meaning the founding of it by prophet Simon Gonçalves Toco in 1949.
