Huambo – The overseer of the United Methodist Church in the province of Huambo, pastor Euclides dos Santos, on Sunday in central Huambo Province, reiterated the increase in social projects for the well-being of communities.
He was speaking at the worship and thanksgiving service for the 36 years of existence of the congregation in Huambo, witnessed by the governor of the province, Pereira Alfredo.
The pastor said that the church will to continue to focus on promoting social projects, through the construction of schools, art centers and offices in communities, in partnership with the local government, to boost sustainable development.
Without giving details, he informed that they already started to build schools in the municipalities of Huambo and Caála, as well as the arts and crafts center in Cachiungo, to reinforce projects related to the education and professionalization of youth, with the purpose of opening new job opportunities for this social section.
He pointed out the reinforcement of programs to combat the vandalization of public assets, with the intensification of campaigns to moralize society, civic re-education, ethics and patriotism, so that the social responsibility of the population is increased
Euclides dos Santos pointed out that the vandalization of public property affects everyone, hence the need for each inhabitant to act as a promoter and guardian of State assets.
The Pastor said that the United Methodist Church has grown substantially in terms of the number of believers and it is present in the municipalities of Huambo, Caála, Cachiungo and Chicala-Cholohanga, at a time when it intends to reach the entire territorial extension of the province.
In turn, the governor of tHuambo Province, Pereira Alfredo, expressed his commitment to working and strengthening institutional relationships with the existing legalized churches in this region, to promote sustainable development and, at the same time, combat the vandalization of public property.
He recognized the role of the Church in the social, educational, health and other areas decisive to restore the well-being of the population.
In this aspect, he said it is essential to share responsibilities with churches, especially efforts to combat the vandalization of public property, the removal of children from and on the streets, in addition to the permanent maintenance of peace in family communities.
The official appealed to families to avoid having children on the street, so that they have more social assistance and the necessary protection, to contribute to the integral development of these children.
The United Methodist Church was established in the province of Huambo on October 18, 1988, and the first mass held was celebrated by Reverend Pedro Manuel Mukumbi Júnior.
