Luanda - Angola reiterated in Geneva, Switzerland, the Executive's commitment to the National Human Rights Strategy, which allowed the implementation of the National Reconciliation Plan in memory of the victims of the conflicts policies that occurred in the country from 1975 to 2002.

In a note reached ANGOP Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights, among other actions, the public apologies of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the Nation, for the events that occurred after May 27, 1977.

The document, which refers to the intervention of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, during the high-level segment of the 49th session of the Human Rights Council, highlights the presentation of certificates of death and remains to families of victims of conflicts that occurred after May 1977.

In her speech, Esmeralda Mendonça referred to the construction, in the country, of a democratic space open to citizens, as Angola prepares to organise the fourth general elections, next August.

In this context, the Secretary of State welcomed the fact that Angolans abroad will be able to vote for the first time, while reiterating the country's commitment to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, as well as the 2030 Development Agenda.

During the session, the Angolan diplomat praised, on behalf of the Member States of the Community of the Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), chaired by Angola, the role of the United Nations in mobilising resources for the technical assistance and staff training to help developing countries.
