Gambos – Providing incentives for agricultural production, technical training for farmers and the supply of small animals for development are some of the actions that the Administration of Gambos, in Huíla, develops to empower families in the municipality.
Speaking at a meeting to celebrate Family Day, which is marked today, Wednesday, the municipal administrator, Francisco Barros, considered it vital to invest in the empowerment of families, to mitigate the difficulties that several households face.
In addition to material support, he said, the authorities reinforced their attention to providing transport and education, with the construction of new schools in villages that did not have them, as well as the expansion of health services, factors that help to improve the quality of families' lives.
At the event, which took place under the motto “Investing in families and achieving sustainable development objectives”, Francisco Barros was encouraged by participants to continue with policies that aim to improve the population's lives.
Considered the municipality with the poorest population in Huíla, Gambos, which is 156 kilometers south of Lubango, has the largest livestock herd in the province, with more than 1,500,000 heads, and a power in ornamental rocks.
It has an estimated population of 107,600 inhabitants, whose main activity is livestock farming.
International Family Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly, is celebrated annually on May 15th. It was celebrated for the first time in 1994.
Its celebration aims, among other objectives, to highlight the importance of the family in the structure of the nucleus and its importance in the basis of early childhood education, as well as reinforcing the message of unity, love, respect and understanding necessary for the good relationship of all elements that compose it.
