Cachiungo – At least 35,000 vulnerable families in Cachiungo municipality, central Huambo province, began to receive on Monday the third installment of social cash transfers under the “Kwenda” program, ANGOP has learnt.

The information was disclosed by the director of the Local Development Institute (FAS), Chimuma de Oliveira, underlining that in Cachiungo the process began in Chiumbo commune, with 8,000 beneficiary households.

Paulo Moma, administrator of Cachiungo, on his turn called on families to rationalize the amounts made available by the government, having encouraged families to apply on agriculture, livestock and the creation of small businesses.

He added that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is concerned about vulnerable families, who, in turn, should take good care of the money made available and use it to solve basic problems.

In Huambo province, Kwenda has already disbursed more than 16 million Kwanzas from 2020 to date, covering nearly 146,881 families in several municipalities such as Bailundo, Cachiungo, Londuimbali and Mungo, of the 11 that make up this region of the country.

This year, the program plans to pay the first installment in Ecunha municipality, with a total of 22,575 families already registered, as well as mapping and registering Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje and Ucuma, where nearly 50,000 families are estimated to receive aid.

Kwenda is a project of the Angolan government aimed to promote local development, which consists of improving access for needy families to basic services and economic opportunities, strengthening local institutional capacities, rehabilitation and construction of social and economic infrastructures.

It aims to support 1.6 million families in situations of poverty and vulnerability in the country under a 320 million US dollars financing provided by the World Bank and another 100 million US dollars financed by the National Treasury. JSV/ALH/TED/AMP
