Dundo - Angola's National Diamond Company (ENDIAMA) has completed the compensation payment to more than 2,000 former workers of mining companies that have been paralyzed for around 12 years in the province of Lunda Norte.

These are the former workers of Sociedade Mineira do Lucapa (SML) Luarica, Luxinge, Fucauma and Yetwene.

The information was disclosed Thursday by Endiama executive Administrator for Mining Operations, Domingos Margarida, on the sidelines of a meeting with the representatives of the former workers, which served to sign the out-of-court settlement between the parties.

He said that ENDIAMA has paid around seven billion kwanzas for the process, which began in June 2023, in addition to the training component for the children of the former workers.

The former workers' lawyer, Fernando Ginga, was optimistic about a harmonious outcome to the process between the parties, and called for ongoing dialogue with a view to full compliance with the agreement signed by the plaintiffs.

The compensation follows an agreement signed in 2013 between ENDIAMA's management and the collective of former workers.

The agreement defined that each of the workers has the right to a monetary amount that varies between 1.7 million and 1.1 million kwanzas.

In addition to these sums, the former employees of the companies in question will also benefit from an entrepreneurship project of their choice and a scholarships award to increase their academic qualifications, as well as those of their dependants.QB/HD/DAN/AMP
