Lobito – South Korean companies are paying special attention to Angola's efforts to produce clean energy and guarantee the supply of electricity to the population, ANGOP learned Tuesday.

This statement was made by the ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Angola, Kwang-Jin Choi, during the 5th Edition of the Korea Angola Energy Cooperation Seminar, held at the Biópio photovoltaic plant, in the municipality of Catumbela, central Benguela Province.

"We hope that cooperation will expand to the construction of renewable energy infrastructures", he said.

Kwang-Jin Choi reported that the Korean company Hanwha Services delivered a million solar panels to seven photovoltaic plants in six provinces of Angola, including Benguela, specifically to the Biopio plant.

He reiterated that President João Lourenço's visit to Korea was a historic milestone for both countries.

He also recalled the signing of the agreement between his country and Angola, at the Korea-Africa summit, represented by the Ministry of Finance, in the business sphere to reinforce economic cooperation in the main industries.

During the seminar, PRODEL's (Electricity Production Public Company) CEO gave a presentation on Angola's renewable energy and electrification policy.

In turn, Euinilson da Silva, from the company Sun Africa, discussed the development plan for solar projects in the country.

At the end, there was a guided tour of the Biópio plant, where the delegation obtained information about the production capacity, how it is working and its maintenance.

The Biópio photovoltaic plant is located in an area of 360 hectares, within a perimeter of nine kilometers.

According to its director, Nilton Silva, it includes 509,40 solar panels, 63 inverters and 32 4.6 mva transformers.

It was designed to generate 188.9 megawatts of direct and 144 of alternating electricity.

The plant is interconnected to the northern system with an awarded 220 kilowatt line and was inaugurated on July 20, 2022.
