Taiyuan- The Angolan ambassador to China, João Salvador dos Santos Neto, said this Saturday in Taiyuan that Chinese investment in the development of low-carbon energy sources could be one of the ways to support the diversification process of Angolan economy.

"Angola has a tropical climate, sun in all seasons of the year, flowing rivers and winds with the necessary power for the development of projects in the field of renewable energies," said the diplomat during his speech at the round table held within the scope of the international forum on “Low Carbon Energy Sources” which took place on 2-4 September in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province.

João Salvador Neto underlined that Angola needs to adapt the diversification of its economy to the scenario of the global digital era, which is why it is open to private investment in the renewable energy sector, to respond adequately to the challenges of industrialization and regional integration.

The diplomat assured that Angola has a national biofuel strategy for the energy transition from primary sources of fossil energy to low carbon, such as hydro, solar, biodiesel and wind.

According to the diplomat, the government has encouraged the use of renewable energy sources, both for the production of ethanol from sugarcane and for the construction of new high-capacity hydrometric dams.

The Angolan diplomat considered international cooperation and transcontinental investment in the renewable energy sector essential, both to mitigate the effects of climate change and to boost industrialization and technological innovation.

“The search for low carbon energies is a concern of all governments and the aforementioned factors lead us to reflect on the need to increasingly promote dialogue and multilateral cooperation in matters that aim to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to from low carbon, such as oil and coal, to renewables, especially water, solar and wind power”, he stressed.

The international forum on “Sevelopment of Low-carbon Energy Sources” was attended by roughly a thousand participants, including scientists, politicians, United Nations and World Bank experts, diplomats, academics and businesspeople.
