Gambos - Three Namibian citizens, suspected of the theft of a Toyota Hilux car, were arrested Wednesday in the municipality of Gambos, southern Huila province, southern Angola, by the National Police, after a connection between authorities from both countries.

This is a work carried out with the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), in partnership with the Namibian forces, which also resulted in the seizure of the stolen vehicle and 650,000 Namibian dollars and a mobile phone.

The vehicle, according to the municipal commander of the National Police in Gambos, superintendent Gabriel Tchipa Lucata, was stolen on July 7 of this year, around 10:30 pm in the village of Hamutenya, in the town of Ongwendiva and claimed to the local authorities hours later.

The suspects, according to the Angolan source, would have taken advantage of the night and, by breaking down the door, entered the interior of the residence where they found the 62-year-old victim and his two children, from whom they demanded the car key.

According to the source, from then on, the Namibian police contacted the Angolan counterpart, which carried out an operation that resulted in their arrest, when they intended to reach the town of Dongue, municipality of Gambos, but which were destined for Luanda, where they intended to dismantle and sell the pieces.

He said that the vehicle only passed the border with the Republic of Namibia, due to falsification of middle documents and alteration of the registration plate.

The media will be handed over to the Namibian authorities, through the national office of Interpool, and the three criminals will be presented to the local public prosecutor's office for the legal proceedings that are required and then be extradited. JT/MS/DOJ
