Luanda – The ruling party’s MP, Luísa Damião, encouraged on Wednesday, in Luanda, continuous synergies, with solid and safe steps, towards the social emancipation of sexual rights and the protection of children.
The parliamentarian made this statement at the meeting of the Technical Working Group on Gender, within the scope of the Health, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, HIV-AIDS and Governance Project of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
According to Luísa Damião, it is necessary to apply other social dynamics that involve safeguarding the fundamental rights of minors, with emphasis on the protection of early pregnancy.
The MPLA deputy recalled that the National Assembly signed with the SADC Parliamentary Forum, in Jan 2024, the agreement to implement the health, sexual and reproductive rights, HIV-AIDS and governance project for the 2023/2026 three-year period.
She was pleased with the project which, in his opinion, raises an issue on the Nations' international agenda.
In this scope, the deputy highlighted that among the objectives to be achieved under this project are the guarantee of safety in the context of the universal health regime, the elimination of child marriage, early and unwanted pregnancy and the promotion of safe abortion.
It also listed the promotion of gender equality and comprehensive sexual education, the protection of vulnerable populations and marginalized groups, as well as the promotion of democratic responsibility and human rights.
“For this year, we would like to continue to count on everyone's collaboration and efforts in the project's activities, so that we can achieve the recommended objectives”, she stated.
On the other hand, she highlighted that in the first year of implementing the project in the AN it was possible to achieve some successes, as a result of the partnership established with the Gender Committee, the Institute for the Fight against AIDS and other organizations, with emphasis on activities on proposal to review the HIV-AIDS Law.
