Cachiungo - The governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, on Tuesday asked for the support of traditional authorities in carrying out the General Census of Population and Housing (2024 Census), for greater coverage in communities.

The governor was speaking to the press at the end of a working visit to the municipality of Cachiungo, located in the eastern corridors of Huambo province.

On the occasion, he said that the support of the sobas should consist of strengthening awareness actions on the valences of the Census and, at the same time, contributing to the involvement of the population, so that the collection of statistical data is fluid and consistent.

He emphasized that traditional authorities should actively participate in the organization of the process, which is scheduled to start on September 19 and end on October 19.

Pereira Alfredo said it was necessary for the sobas to help the enumerators, so that the recommended objectives are achieved, with the purpose of promoting the common welfare.

The General Census of Population and Housing will be carried out throughout the country under the motto 'Together we count for Angola'.

In the province of Huambo, seven thousand 579 field agents should be recruited, namely two provincial, 11 municipal, 37 communal and 688 at local level to cover the eight thousand 578 census sections identified in the 11 municipalities that make up this region of the country.

According to INE forecasts, two million, 830,415 inhabitants should be registered in the province of Huambo, distributed by the municipalities of Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Huambo, Londuimbali, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.

The 2024 General Population and Housing Census will be the third in the country's history, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before National Independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, while the second took place in 2014. LT/JSV/ALH/DOJ
