Benguela – over 100 identification cards for access to subsidies and exemption from paying for public services have already been handed out to former combatants and veterans of the homeland in the municipality of Benguela, ANGOP learnt on Monday.
These are cards through which users benefit from subsidies and exemption from access to some public services, such as electricity, drinking water, public transport, schools and hospitals.
It should be noted that the identification card for former combatants and veterans of the homeland for subsidy complies with Decree Law 13/03 of 15 October, which also exempts the beneficiary from paying some fees and it has security codes to prevent forgery.
Speaking at the handing over of the first 100 cards, Benguela's municipal administrator, Paula Marisa Correia, highlighted the importance of this programme of the government.
To her, the authorities' goal is to minimise the difficulties faced by former combatants and veterans of the homeland, giving them more dignity.
She informed that the programme will continue and the local authorities plan to make more cards available in a second phase.
Taking place under the slogan "Preserving the values of the homeland, let's honour our heroes", the presentation of the cards to the first benefactors of the municipality of Benguela is part of the celebrations for the anniversary of 4 February, the date that marks the beginning of the armed struggle for national liberation.
