Luanda - Angola finished Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, the presentation and defence of its report in the framework of the 28th session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The exhibition, a contribution of the Inter-Sectoral Commission for the Preparation of National Reports on Human Rights (CIERNDH), was assessed by the UN human rights committee, to later serve as a vital instrument for the sustainable implementation of the various plans and programmes in progress, on the guarantee of the rights, inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in society.
According to a note issued by the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN, the secretary of State for Family and Women Promotion, Alcina Cunha Kindanda, reiterated that the Angolan government ratified the Additional Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People's Rights on Persons with Disabilities in Africa.
The minister explained that diplomatic channels are being set up for a visit to the country by a UN delegation on the human rights of people with albinism, as a sign of the openness in consolidating institutional cooperation with international mechanisms.
Regarding the recommendations, the minister stressed that the country is expected to have updated statistical data about the reality in this area after the 2024 General Population and Housing Census is conducted.
The minister added that the application of the law that protects this fringe of society implies the reinforcement of the commitments of Angola's position in the various international and regional Human Rights instruments.
Alcina Kiandala concluded by reiterating the commitment to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the 2030 and African 2063 Development Agenda, of which Angola is a part.
