Luanda- Angola on Saturday at the UN headquarters, in New York (USA), highlighted the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Action Programme for Promotion of Employability (PAPE), benefiting from professional kits and micro-credits for the development of income generating activities.
The Permanent Representative of the Angolan Mission, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, in a statement submitted to the 15th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP15), highlighted the progress achieved in recent years, regarding the social inclusion of people with disabilities, with emphasis on the increase of public transport with reserved seats, creation of inclusive and special schools, physical rehabilitation centres and production of prostheses and ortheses.
Maria de Jesus Ferreira said that the Angolan State established a strategic partnership and, as far as it is available, financial and material support, through the State Budget, to the Angolan Federation of Associations of People with Disabilities, in compliance with Article 29 of the Convention.
She also highlighted the training of Angolan sign language interpreters, by the National Institute of Special Education (INEE), as well as the inclusion of sign language in the programmes of the Public Television of Angola.
According to Maria de Jesus Ferreira, the Angolan Government, through the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion (MASFAMU), started working on the elaboration of its strategy and National Plan of Integrated Actions on Disability, National Accessibility Plan, National Programme of Assistance to Persons with Disability and on the elaboration of the National Programme for the Inclusion of Persons with Disability for 2022- 2027 period.
