Caxito – The digital and ecological village that has been developed since 2016, in the community of Santa Amboleia, Province of Bengo, on Saturday (12) won a solar energy project that is to benefit 500 households.
Called "Projecto Luz" (Light Project), it is an initiative by the NGO Change 1's Life, valued at around USD 70,000, financed by several international partners such as Welltec and DHL, with the aim of promoting and solving the energy crisis in the community.
In the first phase, the NGO Change 1's Life distributed small solar lanterns to get people into the habit of using renewable energy and stopping using candles and fossil fuels.
The general director and founder of the NGO Change 1's Life, Edmilson Ângelo, explained that in this second phase, solar stations were created in the community, to increase the security and income of families who will have more hours to sell their products and help with food preservation.
Maintenance is taken care of and local technicians are undergoing training to ensure the normal functioning of the equipment, he said.
He informed that they are currently working on mobilizing resources from sponsors, to implement the third phase of the project, which aims to electrify the community's homes within three years.
Edmilson Ângelo said that Change 1's Life has been implementing projects in several provinces, but Bengo has been the pilot point, because he believes that what is being done in Santa Amboleia could be replicated in other provinces.
“We want to transform lives. We intend to create a circular economy that serves as an example of how communities can be the solutions to their own problems through promoting education, health, agriculture and everything that represents the potential of their area”, he highlighted.
Change 1's Life is a UK-based charity aiming to help people in need in Sub-Saharan Africa who are victims of poverty and natural disasters or catastrophes by providing them with food, clean water, clothing, healthcare and education.
