Uíge - Sixty-two people died and 479 others were injured in the province of Uíge, as a result of 359 road accidents, recorded between January and June of the current year.
Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of three deaths, 92 injuries and 42 accidents.
These accidents caused damages estimated at more than Akz 79 million.
These figures were announced on Thursday by the head of the Department of Traffic and Road Safety in Uíge, Chief Superintendent Chimpolo
Barros, at the fourth meeting of the Provincial Commission for Traffic and Traffic Management.
He pointed out that the causes of the accidents were excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, poor pedestrian crossings,
poor technical condition of vehicles, lack of road signs and lighting, among others.
The Deputy Governor of Uíge for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Helena Pereira, called on the local Traffic Police to
reinforce road control measures, aiming to reduce road accidents. She acknowledged that in recent times the province of Uíge has recorded
many road accidents, as a result of non-compliance with traffic measures. NM/TED
