Lubango – The Lubango Sanatorium Hospital needs a differentiated microbiology lab, to diagnose the most complex cases characterized by antibiotic resistance, called multi-drug resistance.
This is a laboratory equipped with the GeneXpert MTB/RIF rapid molecular test with 16 modules, to determine patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, given that the previous equipment stopped working more than 4 years ago.
Speaking to ANGOP on Thursday, the director of that unit, Lourenço Kotele, pointed out that the new technology simultaneously detects mycobacterium tuberculosis and resistance to Rifampicin (RIF), through analysis of respiratory samples, that can detect four thousand bacterias at the same time in less than 2 hours.
The acquisition of the new equipment, which is coming soon, said the source, will provide assertive answers to patients about their diagnosis, detailing that they currently resort to the provinces of Benguela and Cunene to carry out such tests.
The Sanatorium is a public establishment of the provincial reference hospital network, is integrated into the National Health Service and provides medical assistance to patients with diseases of a physiological nature, with respiratory symptoms.
Its structure has 207 employees, with emphasis on 12 doctors from different specialties, 10 nurses, 58 nursing technicians, 34 diagnostic and therapeutic technicians.
