Huambo - The Director of Education of Huambo Province, José Rodrigues, announced on Wednesday the distribution of hygiene products for the prevention of cholera to all school institutions in the 17 municipalities.
The first kit, consisting of 26,000 liters of bleach and 2,600 liters of alcohol gel, was symbolically handed over to the Municipal Education Directorate of Huambo Municipality.
José Rodrigues said that the distribution of disinfectants will be extended to all school units in order to consolidate the health system and strengthen the social responsibility of teachers.
He pointed out that teachers are also involved in the prevention of cholera, addressing the disease before classes begin and holding morning and afternoon meetings to raise awareness among the student population.
He called for the need to intensify campaigns to publicize preventive measures against cholera, in a joint process with teachers, traditional authorities, education officials, health technicians, party and religious institutions.
The province of Huambo has recorded four cases of cholera.
Huambo municipality controls 195 school units from primary to secondary level, with nearly 379,000 students currently enrolled. LT/JSV/ALH/DAN/AMP
