Matala - Residents in Matala, southern Huila Province, flocked to psychiatric consultations, general medicine and preventive health lectures, held at a Mental Health fair that took place in the municipality over the last two days.
The event was a promotion by the Lubango Psychiatric Hospital, in partnership with the Health Department of the Matala Municipal Administration.
Querina Essoco, user, welcomed the initiative, as mental illness is often neglected by families.
Emília Calesso, who also joined the consultation, was satisfied with the care provided by doctors specializing in mental health and the medications they received to treat the diagnosed illnesses, as well as the advice aimed at preventing illnesses in the psychiatric forum and beyond.
The director of the Lubango Psychiatric Hospital, Idezibal Aldino, made it known that the mental health fair that took place in Matala has the motto “Mental Health for All” and is part of the institution's program on prevention and promotion of mental health .
On his turn, the Matala Municipality administrator, Miguel António Paiva Vicente, thanked the managers of the Lubango Psychiatric Hospital, for moving specialized doctors, equipment and different drugs for the benefit of the city's citizens.
He admitted that the residents welcomed the event well and hopes that it will be an initiative that will not last just once.
The municipality of Matala, with more than 300 thousand inhabitants, is the second most populated in Huíla and is 180 kilometers to the east of Lubango, the capital of the province.
