Uíge - At least 410 people died of malaria in northern Uíge in 2024, a decrease of 90 deaths compared to 2023, the head of the Provincial Department of Public Health, Lindeza Chaves, told ANGOP on Thursday.
According to the health official, the municipalities of Sanza Pombo, Bungo and Quitexe lead the statistics of deaths in the region, while the cities of Ambuila, Buengas and Quitexe have the highest incidence of the disease.
Chavez said that in 2024, the province recorded a total of 1.7 million cases of malaria, surpassing the figure of 1.5 million recorded in 2023, and that it is preferable the increase in the incidence of the disease, in relation to mortality, after explaining that the disease, if diagnosed early, can be treated and prevent deaths.
Lindeza Chaves urged the population to continue taking preventive measures against cholera, despite the fact that the province has not registered any cases of the disease.
People should continue to wash their hands with soap and water or disinfect them with hand sanitizer, avoid defecating in the open and thoroughly wash their vegetables, among other hygiene measures.
If you notice symptoms of the disease, you should inform the health authorities so that the disease can be treated immediately and deaths avoided.EPP/JAR/TED/AMP
