Luanda – Angolan government announced that it will provide more than 11 billion Kwanzas, equivalent to USD 19.9 million, to combat malaria.
The amount will be earmarked for the acquisition of medicines, tests and reagents, in an effort aimed to reduce mortality and morbidity rate caused by the disease in the country.
The move comes in response to the National Programme to Fight Malaria across the country, according to the Presidential Dispatch no. 109/23, of May 24, published on official Website page.
The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, also authorised the opening of the Emergency Contracting Procedure for the contract.
Official data shows that in the first quarter Angola registered more than two million cases, which resulted in 2,673 deaths.
In 2022, more than 9.2 million cases of malaria were reported. Of this number, the aged-group of more than 15, took the brunt of the disease, accounted for 38% of the cases.
In Angola, malaria is a serious public health problem and the first cause of morbidity and mortality.
