Luanda - At least 65 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in the last 24 hours in four provinces of Angola, namely Luanda, Bengo, Icolo e Bengo and Huambo, the Ministry of Health bulletin said Monday.
33 suspected cases of cholera have been diagnosed in Luanda province, 19 in Bengo, 12 in Icolo e Bengo and one in Huambo.
In the last 24 hours, 2 deaths were recorded in Luanda province, 1 in Sambizanga municipality and 1 in Mulenvos municipality.
Since the beginning of January, Angola has recorded 1,081 suspected cases of cholera in six provinces of Angola: Luanda, Icolo e Bengo, Bengo, Malanje, Huambo and Huíla.
The cases involve patients between the ages of 2 and 86, of whom 554 are female and 527 male, with a total of 748 cases in the province of Luanda, 201 in Icolo e Bengo, 124 in Bengo, 3 in Malanje, 3 in Huambo and 2 in Huíla.
The disease has so far caused 45 deaths in Luanda, 32 in Bengo (8) and Icolo e Bengo (5). The most affected age group is two to five years with 183 cases and 6 deaths, followed by the 10 to 14 age group with 145 cases and 3 deaths.
Currently, 104 patients are hospitalized with cholera.
The Ministry of Health has called for the cooperation of all citizens in taking preventive measures against the disease in order to put an end to this outbreak.AB/OHA/AMP
