Luanda – Angola and Brazil started on Tuesday a training program on human resources in the health sector to increase technical capacity and strengthen the two countries public health sector system.

The act was presided by the Angolan minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta and the Brazilian Health minister, Nisia Trindade, who signed the General Cooperation Program on “ Human Resources Training between Brazil and Angola”.

The Angolan official considered the moment to be historic, since it represents an opportunity to reinforce and strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“The greatest wealth of a nation is its people, healthy people. For this, it is necessary to have good health professionals in quantity and quality, who provide humanized services”, the Angolan minister said, having highlighted the commitment of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in making the program a reality.

The Brazilian minister on his turn acknowledged the excellent time in the relations between the two states and expressed full availability towards this kind of initiatives.

The program includes a training of about 38,000 Angolan citizens in different specialties of the health sector from technical to higher education level by 2027.

During the ceremony, a Work Plan for the Cooperation Program between the Brazilian University of Goiás and the Angolan Institute for Health Specialization was signed by the rector of the university, Angelita Lima, and the director of the institute, Mateus Guilherme.

With the training program launched in Brazil, the two countries are embarking on a new paradigm in health cooperation.

Technical cooperation between the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of Angola began in 1980, with the signing of the Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement on 11 June of the same year.
