Luanda - The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, on Wednesday called on society to become aware of the need to prevent breast cancer.

On the occasion of 'Pink October', a campaign that symbolizes the fight against breast cancer, which this year takes place under the slogan 'Prevent is Win – Touch, Care, Prevent', the Vice-President of the Republic dedicated part of her agenda to the affixing of the pink ribbon, a symbol of the initiative aimed at raising awareness in society about the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease.

The day before, on the occasion of the anniversary, Esperança da Costa addressed a message to the employees of her office in which she calls for Pink October to be 'a true reminder about the need to take care of our health and the health of those we love'.

In the message, the Vice-President of the Republic states that although self-examination is essential, this resource is not sufficient for the early detection of the disease, thus not replacing mammography, at a time when early diagnosis continues to be the key to increasing the chances of cure.

The Vice-President launches the challenge to strengthen the incentive, awareness and encouragement to carry out periodic examinations and self-examination, with a view to promoting women's health, eliminating the impact of taboos, and thus contributing to the demystification of the theme and providing the necessary support to all those who fight the hard battle of breast cancer.

The affixing of the pink ribbon to Esperança da Costa is the corollary of the 'Pink October' Campaign in the Support Bodies for the Vice-President of the Republic started a day earlier.

The Campaign, which runs until October 31st, aims to strengthen awareness levels and mobilize not only the agency's employees, but also women from Angola, Africa and the world, demonstrating the importance of health care and early diagnosis of breast cancer. FMA/ART/DOJ
