Ondjiva - President Joe Biden's visit to Angola is cementing the geopolitical position of the United States of America in Africa, at a time when world powers are disputing investment in the continent, international economic relations expert Adolfo Teca said on Tuesday in Cunene.

Joe Biden started a three-day state visit to Angola on Monday, which includes a meeting with President João Lourenço and a trip to Benguela province.

Speaking to ANGOP, Adolfo Teca said the visit should be analyzed from two perspectives, one political and the other economic.

From the political point of view, Angola is a priority due to its democratic trajectory, said the expert, stating that the US President's trip represents a new stage in diplomatic relations between the two states, with great advantages for Angola, due to the fact that the US is the biggest economic and political power in the world.

‘Clearly people wonder about the gain of the visit of a President at the end of his term, but it opens the door to other horizons and disputes between countries and the international community is keen to see the results,’ he emphasized.

From an economic perspective, he said that the focus is on the major initiative linked to global investment partnerships, with the Lobito Corridor as a strategic route, not only for Angola, but also for the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

He also said that the delegation is  bringing a large team of US businesspeople interested in investing in the country and, with the forum, it would be possible to explore business opportunities.

Angola and the USA have established diplomatic relations since 1993, after the Angolan state was recognised by the administration of then President Bill Clinton. The two countries cooperate in the fields of the economy, telecommunications, energy, health, road infrastructure, among others. FI/LHE/SC/DAN/AMP
