Luanda - The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, on Tuesday in Luanda, granted audience, to the leader of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) - European Union (EU), Ana Rita Sithole.

Upon leaving the meeting, Ana Rita Sithole praised Angola's commitment to women in decision-making positions in the State apparatus and sovereign bodies, as a way for the country to quickly achieve gender parity.

Likewise, she said it was necessary to continue working with young girls in order to encourage them towards female empowerment.

On the occasion, she thanked President João Lourenço who approved the holding, in the Angolan capital, of the 64th Parliamentary Assembly of the OACPS and the constitution of the 1st Session of the ACP-EU, within the scope of the Samoa Agreement.

The leader of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly said that, during the meeting, they reviewed, among other matters, aspects relating to the organization's 1st Joint Parliamentary Session.

He also added that the Angolan capital is hosting today the 1st ACP - European Union Joint Parliamentary Session, which is highlighting the Samoa Agreement, that defines the new general framework for relations between these regions, covering six priority areas, namely democracy and human rights, sustainable economic development and growth, climate change, human and social development, peace, security and migration and mobility.

The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly is co-chaired, on the European side, by Carlos Zorrinho, a Portuguese MEP, and, on the OEACP side, by Anita Rita Sithole, Member of the Parliament of Mozambique.

The OACPS brings together around 1.5 billion people from three continents and 79 countries, 48 ​​from Sub-Saharan Africa, 16 from the Caribbean and 15 from the Pacific, which makes this organization a significant force in the concert of nations. FMA/SC/DOJ
