Luanda – Angola’s Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, arrived Sunday in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, to take part in the 3rd International High Level Conference on the International Decade‘ Water for Sustainable Development’ 2018-2028.
On arrival at Dushanbe International Airport at around 3.30pm (local time), Esperança da Costa was greeted by the Angolan ambassador to Russia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, Yuri de Sousa Santos.
Before leaving the airport, she held a brief courtesy meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Sulaimon Ziyoz Zoda.
Esperança da Costa, who is representing the Angolan head of state, João Lourenço, is due to speak at the plenary session of the event, which will bring together, among others, high-level representatives of the member states of the United Nations (UN), in the capital of that Central Asian country.
The conference will be divided into three main sections. The first includes thematic forums by region, namely the “African Water Forum”, the “Glacier Forum” and the “Central Asian Water Forum”, as well as a Forum on Science and Technology and the private sector.
The second day is reserved for the opening of the plenary session, the backdrop of which is an interactive dialogue focused on the implementation of the decade of water action and the results of the 2023 UN Water Conference.
Topics such as “Water for Health: Access to Hygiene, including the Human Rights to Drinking Water and Sanitation” and “Water for Sustainable Development: Valuing Water, the Water-Energy-Food Nexus and Sustainable Economic and Urban Development” will also be discussed on this second day.
The third day is reserved for the issues of “Water for climate, resilience and the environment: source to the sea, biodiversity, climate, resilience and disaster risk reduction (DRR)” and “Water for cooperation: transboundary and international water cooperation, intersectoral cooperation, including scientific and water cooperation, across the 2030 Agenda”.
The theme on “Decade of action on water: accelerating the implementation of the decade's goals, including through the UN Secretary-General's Plan of Action” closes the plenary, attended by heads of state and government, civil society and the private sector. FMA/ART/MRA/DOJ
