Luanda – Angola’s minister of Finance Veras Daves said Thursday in Luanda the appointment of women to several key positions in the Government rules out the vision that female should only hold lower positions.
The minister said so during an "Extended Meeting with Women from Various Groups of Society", an initiative of the Luanda provincial secretariat of the Angolan Women's Organisation (OMA), aimed at sharing experiences.
To Vera Daves, the appointments of women to key positions at the government level fulfill the strong ideological conviction of the Angolan leader, who has ruled out the concept that women should only hold lower positions.
Addressing a topic “The key role of women in the consolidation of a democratic, inclusive and developed Angola”, the minister considered crucial the role of women in development country.
According to her, in its last congress, the MPLA reached a historic milestone, among other things, for having reached the parity goal defined by the party's leadership, especially by the president.
Vera Daves said that this reflects a philosophy and a historical vision of the party that has always fought for women's emancipation and gender balance, fighting all forms of discrimination, a fundamental aspect for having a society where justice is cultivated.
The event, which was attended by the first secretary of Luanda in Luanda province, Bento Bento, discussed topics such as "Women's Participation in Political Life" and "Women's Participation in Public Life".
