Luanda – Angola expressed its deep outrage on Sunday in Kampala, Uganda, at the attack on the safety and physical integrity of its diplomat Gilberto Veríssimo, the current president of the Economic Community of Central African States commission (ECCAS) Commission, based in Libreville, the Gabonese capital.
The indignation was expressed by the Angolan Foreign minister, Téte António, at a meeting he had in the Ugandan capital with the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea and acting president of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
Last Wednesday (17), armed and uniformed Gabonese men broke into the house of the Angolan diplomat, Gilberto Veríssimo. He was psychologically harassed and the same men searched the rooms of his house.
According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to which ANGOP had access, Téte António asked Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to act together with the Gabonese authorities over what had happened.
He called on the Gabonese authorities to observe the principles of protecting and safeguarding the security and physical integrity of diplomatic entities accredited in the country, in accordance with the different legal diplomas related to the International Law.
The final communiqué of the fifth extraordinary session of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of ECCAS, within the framework of the Council for Peace and Security in Africa (COPAX), released last December in Djibloho, Equatorial Guinea, urged Gabon to guarantee security conditions for the president of the Commission, its members and all its staff.
