Vice-President assesses academic situation in Huambo

Luanda – The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, had a hectic working day on Wednesday in the Province of Huambo, with highlight on the academic situation in that side of the country, as well as analysed environmental projects.

Esperança da Costa, who is in the central plateau for a three-day working visit, as part of her privileged monitoring of the General Education, Higher Education and Environmental issues, listened to the representatives linked to the various organisational units of the José Eduardo dos Santos University (UJES), among other aspects.

After a meeting at the government palace, where she was briefed on the social and economic situation of the province, the Vice-President listened to a report related to the work carried out by UJES and the current situation of Road and Traffic Planning in Huambo, which was considered worrying by the local representative of the Ministry of the Interior, Manuel Gonçalves.

She also visited the UJES, the Centre for Tropical Ecology and Climate Change (CETAC), the Agricultural Research Institute, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the construction site of the future Bioveterinary and Animal Vaccine Production Centre.

When she visited all the institutions, Esperança da Costa, who was also accompanied by the minister for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mara do Rosário Teixeira, learnt about the state of operation, the main difficulties and prospects, as well as taking guided tours of the various areas to get to know the educational institution.

Book of honour

On the occasion, the Vice-President of the Republic signed the book of honour of the Rectorate of the José Eduardo dos Santos University.

In her brief speech, she congratulated the institution on the progress it has made since its creation, which has seen the creation of new quality postgraduate courses, including a doctorate.

"I also congratulate UJES for its efforts and resilience in expanding its response to demand, but also in the permanent search for quality and excellence," she said.

The visit continues on Thursday with trips to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, the Cambiote University Centre, Huambo Municipal Hospital, the Benguela Railway Professional Training Centre (CFB) and the School of Special Education.
